I’ve loved SCSI for as long as I’ve been into computers. It has always been the pinnacle of storage. And when I was able to afford it, I got into it. I’ve had SCSI OS drives for many years for speed and reliability. I’ve loved the advantages. Low latency is good stuff. But the cost was just so high. Having to learn about LVD and SE and termination and 80 pin and adaptors and cabling and the rest of the stuff was a headache. The cost is so high and the vendors specialized. The noise and the heat and power consumption.
SATA SSDs will fill the role SCSI did for me in the past. Much more mainstream and much less esoteric and silent and faster. Only thing missing are the bragging rights.
So I am wiping my SCSI drives in preparation for disposal. I get to hear the noise and deal with the cables one last time. Nice knowing you. Now get the fuck out of my house.
