Lightbox 2 is a great little piece of javascript for showing pictures without navigating away from the current webpage. Took a bit to get this working and to figure out the best image sizes but here it is. 420 wide for the ‘thumbnail’ and 800 wide for the ‘full sized image’. All that it needs is a tag in the image link ‘rel=”lightbox”‘ and the plugin takes care if it all.
I’ve finally fixed a decade old problem. Well. It has been fixed for years but I’ve never properly implemented the solution. Years ago, to display say Chinese characters in a web page, I used a tool like Richwin. Crappy tool. I’ve suspected that modern browers can display these characters natively for years but never figured out how. Turns out I was just missing a unicode font. All I needed was arialuni.ttf installed and everything works easy as pie.
I’ve taken an interest in Scalable Inman Flash Replacement (sIFR) but it is way to much work to use for the crap I might want to use it for. There is a WordPress cg-Flashytitles that looks like it would work but I think the version is wrong or incompatible with WordPress 2.1.
It would be even better if sIFR eventually used SVG.
sIFR 3 beta 1 exists as of December 2006 so I am glad it is still in active development. I can’t tell how long it will be before a useful plugin for WordPress exists with the new version.
I saw a post mentioning component out for HDTV and decided to pursue my desire to get fancy HDTV out on my current TV. Looking into it, the XFX 6800xt card I have will probably not work with a component out adapter. The old Ti4200 will not have enough pixel shader power to do anything for me. This leaves me more stuck than I would prefer. It isn’t that I am close to pursuing such a upgrade but that this video card that would otherwise find use will not be useful now is annoying.
My favorite replacement for ACDSee v3 from a decade ago. Still being developed. Light enough and very well featured. I doubt there are any important improvements with this version but it is installed regardless.
Astaro went v7 General Availability. I am not upgrading at this time. The enhancements are not important to me. There is also no tool for upgrading without a re-installation yet or a way to import v6 configurations. If I decide to upgrade the hardware my firewall runs on, I might go ahead with the v7 upgrade but that is more work for me. I do have spare faster hardware laying about but I am not sure what is reliable anymore.
I could not leave well enough alone and had to really fix the spell checker. Installed Aspell binaries and a dictionary and poof it works. Very nice.
Since I was having issues with the default WordPress WYSIWYG editor, and a theme I was using, I decided to try another editor plugin. Xinha seems to work fine and it fixes my spell check issue since the WordPress update but it still does not work with that theme. I will now blame the theme and stop trying to fix it. For now.
